Planning The Trip

Karen Connor (my wife) and I are planning a trip to Costa Rica this spring and we want to start a dialog with bloggers and others about where to go, what places recent travelers recommend and what to be aware of. We are not as young as the typical backpacker / surfer / hosteler but we plan on staying in relatively inexpensive hostels.

Photo taken from the roof of The Secret
Garden Quito. (Borrowed from other Blog, I
will try to find remember and credit them)

We tried this method of travel last year to visit our son Ben in Ecuador. Ben was studying Ecology at the University de San Francisco de Quito, in Quito Ecuador. We found online (through reading many blogs) a wonderful hostel, The Secret Garden Quito. The Secret Garden is located in the old part of town, which is a Spanish Colonial capital. What really sets the Secret Garden apart from other hostels is that they have a roof top restaurant with a stunning view of the old section of Quito and they serve meals family style at one large table. The ambient weather is such that outdoor dining is prefered year round.

I plan on updating this fairly regularly between now and our trip. I have some ideas about how to get low cost air fare to Central America, and I want to cover the hostels that we are considering.
